Car Maintenance Tips

Hello,
It's the most wonderful time of the year, are you excited?
Today on the blog, we will be sharing simple car maintenance tips for you as you go about your business this yuletide season. It's important that you care for your car so as not to be stranded. Taking care of your car is, in many ways, like taking care of your health so here are some tips to assist you;

- Keep an eye on the fluids - fuel, water, brake fluids, Power steering fluid. Fluids are the life blood of cars.
- To allow your headlights to shine their brightest, apply some toothpaste and then use a brush (certainly not your own) or a cloth to clean them. Rinse with water to reveal the like-new headlight. You can also use nail polish to remove any insightful blemishes. Just pick out a color that closely matches the tint of the car.
- Plunger - The Cure of Small Dents: As you may have guessed it, all it requires is putting the suction part of the plunger around the dent and pulling till the dent comes off.
- Don't race the engine: Lots of people like to rev the engine once starting it, assuming this is a good way to help "warm it up" - wrong! Revving or racing your engine during start - up is a sure-fire way to add years to the engine
- Shift to neutral at red lights: When you're sitting at a red light, shift your car into neutral. It puts less strain on your engine and transmission this way because, otherwise, the engine is still working to push the car forward even though it's stopped.
- Careful with hard turns: Be careful not to hold your steering wheel in an extreme turn position for too long. If you do, it could end up damaging the power-steering pump and you won't be able to turn at all.
- Avoid the gas station if you see a tanker: When the tanker is filling up the main gas tanks, it can stir up sediment. This can cause clogs in your fuel filters and fuel injectors.
- Avoid too many keys on your keychain: The weight of the keys combined with the bouncing on the road can wear out your ignition's tumblers which can lead to ignition switch failure.
- Park in the shade: Ideally it's best to park your car in a garage or under cover, but the shade is your next best bet. It minimizes UV damage to your car's interior and it's nicer to get into after it's been sitting for a period of time!

- Pay attention to the warning lights: Learn what each of your warning lights means and how to resolve it. Always refer to the owner''s manual if you are unsure.
- Check tire pressure: To keep your tires in top shape, check the pressure every month to know if there''s any need to add more.
- Listen to your car: Take note of the normal sounds, so it is easy to detect when a sound is abnormal.
- Find a trusted mechanic and have him/her on speed dial.

Taking care of your car regularly can prevent costly repairs in the future. Do you know any other car maintenance tips that will help save money? We'd love to hear them!
